Exhibition Description :

the exhibition farmer and style, from the 6th of august till the 27th of september, sketches how globalization, a growing world population and the search for sustainable lifestyles leads to concepts like vertical farming. as farming slowly makes it’s entry into the city, however in a modernized way, farmers specialize themselves in urban life. design plays a crucial role in this new interpretation. li edelkoort (former chairwoman of design academy eindhoven) will curate this exhibition. she has already invited a number of important designers, architects, artists and brands to collaborate with us. some of the participants are for example frank tjepkema, studio makkink & bey, piet heijn eek, studio job, mvrdv, wiel arets, scholten & baijings and many others.

Rocking on the Beach (2009)

EN: at this point in time the urban population is greater than the rural, for the first time in the history of the earth. this means that for most of us the city has become our natural habitat. We can rarely meet nature in the city and that is why at times we feel nostalgic and we sometimes daydream about going to the beach so we can almost hear the sound of waves and feel the sandy beaches under our feet. “rocking on the beach” helps you realize this experience at home. the plastic pipes and shapes reproduce the environmental sounds you can hear on the beach. the secret lies in the size, shape and structure of the pipes.

NL: op dit moment en voor het eerst in de geschiedenis is de urbane bevolking groter dan de rurale. dit betekent dat voor de meesten onder ons de stad onze natuurlijke omgeving is geworden. Het is moeilijk om de natuur in de stad te ervaren en soms voelen we ons nostalgisch en gaan dagdromen over een tochtje naar zee om de golven te horen en het rulle zand onder onze voeten te voelen. “rocking on the beach” helpt ons om deze ervaring ook thuis te beleven. de plastic pijpen en vormen bootsen omgevingsgeluiden van het strand na. Het geheim ligt in het formaat, de vorm en de structuur van de pijpen.
