Majestic, thrown like contraptions Rocking on the Beach chairs by Joon&Jung, playfully simulate enchanting sounds of the seashore. Inspired by nature, Ronél Jordaan’s beautiful sculptural rocks nestle together, whilst Tom Price’s magnificent Meltdown chair, a sea urchin like creature, washed up in the flotsam, tantalizes the imagination. _www.peter-harvey.com

We participated DMY Youngsters with ‘Cloud Stool, Form from Everyday’ in Central exhibition. The festival was great with lively and young atmosphere and we met so many nice people. It also gave us opportunity to think about our present and future.

During the Cologne Furniture Fair, we gave a 7 minutes speech. Organized by Flausen.

We talked about our ‘Rocking on the Beach’, which was exhibited during the fair. We start talking from our research about the urban life to how we build the final rocking chair.

We flew to the Stockholm to promote and sell our Melting Cup, I’m too sad to separate Cup and Paper Alarm Clock during the Stockholm Furniture Fair. We met Anita, one of the editors from Designboom while we were at the Cologne and she invited us to the Stockholm Designboom Mart.

It was our first time being in the market and selling our design products. We learned a lot about the market and came up with a new strategy of our business.

We were invited to the D3 Design Talents Contest Exhibition from IMM Cologne with ‘Rocking on the Beach’. We have Improved the material with ABS for this fair to let people sit and experience. It was the first abroad exhibition out of Netherlands for us. Everything was new for us but a lot of support from D3, the exhibition was successful. We had so many good feedback and reactions in person. And we made great friends :)

The event itself was innovative and new for us. The Strijp-X team, Thijs Bakker and EHVPS team curating this event to promoting us and the design shop in Strijp-X. This pop-up design event is informed couple of hours ago to the subscribers. This has big meaning to people and us, because they could have cultural accidental experience in their daily life. For us, we could have frank conversation with people with our design. We believe that this could be a meaningful cultural event in Eindhoven. We deeply appreciate to Thijs and the peoeple who gives us this opportunity.

Globally there is a much interest in arts and design from Eindhoven. The city is one of the two finalists in the competition for the title ‘World Design Capital’, which gives us room for thought at Temporary Art Centre (TAC). What does it mean to carry that title? And what does it mean for our centre as an incubator, ideas factory and meeting place? During the Dutch Design Week we examine these questions. We balance between space, art and design, and present the outcome in this exhibition of architects, artists and designers.

Paper Zoo is dagelijks geopend van 11 tot 18 uur,
Op donderdag 22 en vrijdag 23 oktober is de expositie ook ’s avonds open van 11 tot 22 uur.

Iedere stad verdient een dierentuin. Ook Eindhoven. Maar dan wel een bijzondere dierentuin. Een dierentuin zonder dieren die uit hun natuurlijke habitat zijn gehaald, maar één vol wonderlijke creaturen. Niet van vlees en bloed, maar van papier.

Paper Zoo heet de exotische dierentuin die dit jaar tijdens de Dutch Design Week bij MU te bezoeken is. Alleen extincten en mutanten worden er toegelaten. Wezens die zijn uitgestorven of nog genetisch moeten muteren vullen de ruimte op de eerste etage in De Witte Dame.

En ze komen overal vandaan, omdat tientallen internationale ontwerpers ingingen op de uitnodiging van MU om een fantasiebeest in te sturen.
Het leeuwendeel van de Paper Zoo creaturen wordt echter gemaakt door vijf jonge ontwerpers(duo’s): Gwendolyn Huskens, Florian de Visser, Ephameron, Laurens Manders en Daphna Isaacs, Maarten Kolk en Guus Kusters. Twee weken lang bouwen en vouwen, knippen en scheuren zij MU om tot een papieren biotoop onder aanvoering van curatoren Thijs Bakker en Annemarie Klijn.

Paper Zoo wijkt daarmee mijlenver af van de traditionele dierentuin. De schepsels leven niet echt, al lijken ze soms te ademen. Sommige kun je zelfs voorzichtig betasten, omdat ze nu eenmaal niet in een kooi hoeven. Maar kijk wel uit, want ze zijn kwetsbaar, letterlijk, omdat ze allemaal van papier zijn. Papier dat soms lijkt op de dikke schubben van een amfibie maar soms ook transparant is als het vleugeltje van een insect.
