Due to the accelerating development of science and technology and their profound impact on social life we lose track of our relations to people close to us, such as neighbours and friends. The flood of digital and commercial culture drowns the concern for and awareness of our direct living environments. Everybody knows – it is easy to say ‘We are too busy!’ – may it be a matter of fact or just an excuse – as Designers we kind of feel sorry for this state.
Refering to the ‘Rocking on the Beach’ chair, a former work of us, we at Studio Joon&Jung seek to primarily provide a natural experience yet through the moderat and subtle implementation and use of high technology.

The ‘Living Light’ is triggering the people’s attention for its light, gathering and grouping them under the same source. By detecting the human presence in relation to the space around, the ‘Living Light’ blossoms into a big flower simoultaneously increasing the amount of light, interactively welcoming the people to come together and communicate under its ambient blossom. Our algorithm for the specially programmed microchip is controlling the energy use and brightness of the light according to the presence of people, thus enabling the light to switch into energy saving mode when there is nobody around. The maximum brightness is about 1750 Lumen ( equivalent to 220V 120W incandescent light bulb ) whereas the overall energy consumption is but 15W for the ‘Living Light’.

The idea for the ‘the natural speaker’ derived from the desire to create an absolutely unique, handcrafted speaker for the interior space.
Whereas a lot of speakers are constructed to produce a rather fat bass and sharp high tones, we felt the sound was kind of stuck inside the speakers, missing a natural vibe and ambiance. During the development of the ‘the natural speaker’ we discovered the great properties of porcelain as a speaker casing, providing a clear resonance and mellow sound.

Amplified inside the ceramic and wood transmission construction, the sound gains a slight echo, creating a natural feeling of resonance, resembling the distinct flair of an acoustic instrument right in front of you.

Each set of pieces is individually crafted by hand and each porcelain casing checked for best amplifying performance.
If you value a balanced mid-tone sound and a speaker with a ‘feeling’ for your music, you will surely enjoy the ‘the natural speaker’.

As urban population are getting multiple and complex, people could feel separation and isolation in a large group more and more. The concept ‘relationship’ was trigger to connect people and the space, and we discovered that a dance of circle with lots of people could be found all around cultures in the world. This approached metaphor to the design that can be represented by visual, and space from the order of living.

We believe that the metaphor of the humans who has a circle dance gives a life to object, and that could have a natural module for systems and functions. This interesting way of usage were discovered couple of functions, and this is able to use at office, house and so on. Most of all, we believe that the chair could give you the feeling of solidarity.

We developed the original I’m too sad to separate cup 2006 into 4 kinds of forms and different ear position. We experimented more with shapes of a relationship that we are facing in our everyday life. Between a tension and a relaxation.

Meerhoven is one of the recent Suburbs around Eindhoven. The citizens who live in Suburbs are looking for activities from outside of their living places. They sometimes forget what they really have and where do they live.The Living House is the space, which is reflected the environment from Library in Meerhoven. From our observation, we figured out about what, how and where. The library is warmer than others. The people who work there are careful and have warm heart. They think the visitors as their family, and remember how they care. They have a beautiful green environment and the special story about airport and hanger around them. The structure made by bamboo for abstract image, which is the illustration of the trace drawing of the airplane  hide under the cloud in the sky. We programmed to express three special stories. The Living House No.1 is about what you imagine in the library, and No.2 is about the mind like as how welcoming you when you get in. The No.3 is about the environment where a forest with wind. Most of all, what we learned from the project is how do we care people and their life. We hope it is becoming your second home for you. Have your Journey start from here.

The Living House Movie

A misty walk becomes a drawing.

Architect Curtain was commissioned work from 12n STDNBW. Drawings are inspired by the architect’s background and the nature. In each layer of panel has different drawing by hand sew on the kassdoek with subtle colors. Because of the half transparency of the fabric and lighted line, it doesn’t give you information directly. But as you walk by the image passes like an illusion.  It is like a memory from your dream. The scene, you would have passed by without aware of.  But it has been always there in our everyday.

Each Panel has different illustration. A feeling change depends on the light as well.

Cloud Stool, the inspiration of cloudscape.

All nature is making relation and alive in everyday. It creates a constant surprising composition of shape and color. Mankind is individual, but sharing the common senses with group, and it makes them unique and
unified. Cloud Stool is inspired by the flexibility and softness of the cloudscape. It can be singular or become a group as a human being. It gives the illusion that it’s alive, by using irregularity, flexibility and subtle differences in tone of perception. Conclusively, the form interacts between objects, and people could explore with it.

How could be a valuable object in age of mass production? We were researching to find alternative possibilities. The paper has a lot meaning from history to environmental issue. This product is made from collected paper. The shape is carved with delicacy when the initial shape came out from a mold.  It brings you cozy feeling with soft tactile.
