We took part of a design workshop, as tutors, at the Technische Universiteit of Eindhoven : Genius, one day invention. Students were supposed to create their own costume to make a lot of people coming to the party which was organised on the day. The aim was to teach them how to express and show their personnality through their creations, with the hope they will be able to continue that in their design projects.

We experimented new materials by mixing concrete with stone powder, paper mash, and others natural materials.

Due to the accelerating development of science and technology and their profound impact on social life we lose track of our relations to people close to us, such as neighbours and friends. The flood of digital and commercial culture drowns the concern for and awareness of our direct living environments. Everybody knows – it is easy to say ‘We are too busy!’ – may it be a matter of fact or just an excuse – as Designers we kind of feel sorry for this state.
Refering to the ‘Rocking on the Beach’ chair, a former work of us, we at Studio Joon&Jung seek to primarily provide a natural experience yet through the moderat and subtle implementation and use of high technology.

The ‘Living Light’ is triggering the people’s attention for its light, gathering and grouping them under the same source. By detecting the human presence in relation to the space around, the ‘Living Light’ blossoms into a big flower simoultaneously increasing the amount of light, interactively welcoming the people to come together and communicate under its ambient blossom. Our algorithm for the specially programmed microchip is controlling the energy use and brightness of the light according to the presence of people, thus enabling the light to switch into energy saving mode when there is nobody around. The maximum brightness is about 1750 Lumen ( equivalent to 220V 120W incandescent light bulb ) whereas the overall energy consumption is but 15W for the ‘Living Light’.

The idea for the ‘the natural speaker’ derived from the desire to create an absolutely unique, handcrafted speaker for the interior space.
Whereas a lot of speakers are constructed to produce a rather fat bass and sharp high tones, we felt the sound was kind of stuck inside the speakers, missing a natural vibe and ambiance. During the development of the ‘the natural speaker’ we discovered the great properties of porcelain as a speaker casing, providing a clear resonance and mellow sound.

Amplified inside the ceramic and wood transmission construction, the sound gains a slight echo, creating a natural feeling of resonance, resembling the distinct flair of an acoustic instrument right in front of you.

Each set of pieces is individually crafted by hand and each porcelain casing checked for best amplifying performance.
If you value a balanced mid-tone sound and a speaker with a ‘feeling’ for your music, you will surely enjoy the ‘the natural speaker’.

Since warmest invitation from Coco van Wijk and her family, we could have exhibition and small presentation about our new product ‘the natural speaker’. Thank you for the good documentary to the Director Maarten & Alexis. However, I’ve been nervous with interview, please understand. I’ve been think the designer should think interaction between people and object when I show some project. It was good conversation.

We’ve been busy with the new projects. Kinetic has been one of our most concern these days. There is one master artist who’s name is Theo Jansen. We’ve been research about Kinetic and him, and we realized that Kinetic in calculated design is pretty difficult. Theo Jansen was a Physicist, and we believe that the background must be helped his project. Somehow, we change the direction of study as “First Copy the element of the masterpiece and try out to make new kinetic ourselves”. The study was really helpful, and now we are working on a new project that you could check in March or April on our website.

We’ve got new intern who has a great personality and design technical. He had an experience at professional boat making company ‘Hyundai Yacht” at South Korea with many great boat designers. We appreciate a lot to him, and hope we could make a great memory.

CBK’s-Hetrogenbosch, Vice Versa, 2010-2011

Vice Versa is an exchange project between artists Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven. Eindhoven and Den Bosch crow flies but 35 km apart. Both cities have their own inspiring artistic climate. Yet many distinguished artists in their neighboring city.

Vice Versa is an exciting interaction between these two cities and provides an opportunity for the work of talented artists from the other city to present. A group with a wide variety of disciplines, including design, photography, paintings and video art.
